Canaries 3-2 Penwortham Town at Preston Sports Arena

Sunday 8th January 2012

Canaries secured a double over Penwortham Town, with an important win, which lifts them off the foot of the table.

The enforced winter break did not appear to have affected Canaries, as they put Penwortham Town on the back foot from the start. Some early inter-play between Baroot, Hafeji and Uddin caused the opposition some problems, with a couple of marginal offside decisions going against Canaries.

The breakthrough came when Hafeji threaded a ball through to Baroot who calmly rounded the keeper to make it 1-0. Canaries continued to press, without causing too many problems for the opposition, who themselves were restricted to mainly set-pieces. Against the run of play, Penwortham equalised, when Canaries were caught appealing for an offisde flag, which never came, allowing the striker to slot home.

The goal seemed to spark Canaries into life, as they started to pass the ball around with confidence, Ahmed, Baroot, Uddin and Toorawah all looking lively. The second Canaries goal soon came when a great run and cross from Kaiser Ahmed, found Baroot who tapped in for his second.

Back came Penwortham, as they forced a couple of good saves from Majoo but Baroot broke away to complete his hat-trick. Canaries had more chances on the break as Toorawah and sub Ali both spurned great opportunities to put the game to bed. Penworthan Town ensured a nervy finish as they scored a late penalty to make it 3-2, but Canaries held on for a vital 3 points.

MOTM - Suleman Baroot - 3 well taken goals as Baroot's clinical finishing proved to be the difference.
