History

Who are Canaries Football Club?

Canaries FC are a local community football team based in Preston. The team have been established since 1993 & consist of players of a mixed race. Canaries FC have been successful in numerous seven-a-side & five-a-side national tournaments, most notably being the inaugural winners of the Sony Entertainment Television Asia tournament in 2001 and then again in 2002. Canaries also qualified for the grand final of the Millennium Cup; the biggest 5-a-side tournament in Britain, Canaries began playing 11-a-side football in 2001 in the Lancashire Evening Post Sunday Football League and achieved 4 consecutive promotions to the Premier league. The first this has been achieved in over 40 years of the league. Recently Canaries FC have been crowned UK Asian community cup champions 2008 defeating FC Smethwick from Birmingham at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea Football Club.Canaries continue to be successful both on and off the pitch...

The Way Forward

 Canaries FC are taking positive steps to encourage & give youngsters in the community the opportunity to be represented in a recognised a FA affiliated league, while maintaining our ethos of equality for all. The club is also involved in numerous voluntary community projects involving other sports and various other activities through partnership with other organisations. The emphasis is primarily on youths to enable them to focus their energies in a positive way, however we also provide for and involve different members and ages of the community.

Youth Development Strategy

Canaries FC are more than simply a football team. We pride ourselves on being at the forefront of the local community in helping the youths of today. Simply playing football for the present day is not enough. Canaries FC have recognised the need & the importance of ensuring the club are here to stay for the foreseeable future. This has been utmost in our minds, during our youth development programme. Canaries FC have been actively involved in organising & conducting coaching sessions for youngsters aged between 7-16 for a number of years. Indeed Canaries FC can boast five qualified FA junior managers within their ranks as well as three Level 2 coaches. The youth development programme is an ongoing initiative. Canaries FC are also responsible for the organisation and implementation of three leagues for 3 different youth age groups. We believe, these youngsters are the future & have every confidence these youngsters can make a successful transition into our senior squad.

This initiative has numerous benefits:

It allows the youngsters to develop & express their skills in a constructive manner;
It preoccupies the youngsters, thereby benefiting the community;
It enables Canaries FC to have a readily available youth policy for the future; &
more importantly the initiative allows Canaries FC to put something back into the community.
Aims & objectives

Canaries FC have a number of goals both long term & short term. These are:

to encourage the community to work together in order to create, develop & enjoy Senior & Junior football;
to provide structured pathways in football & sports for players of all ages & ability;
to support & encourage all interested individuals to attain Governing Body Awards & other qualifications in order to support Canaries FC & the community for the future;
to ensure Canaries FC become established for both the senior & junior teams within recognised & respected leagues, for the forseeable future.
To provide educational opportunities and diversionery activities for the youths in the community.
